Overview
Can’t Wait to Learn (CWTL) introduces cost-effective learning solutions to the serious challenges children face accessing quality education through the development of innovative personalised learning solutions with a focus on serious gaming.
To date, CWTL has been implemented in Sudan, Lebanon, South Sudan, Jordan, Uganda, and Ukraine. CWTL has been proven in all contexts in which it has been used (Ukraine pending) to significantly improve and accelerate children’s learning of foundational literacy and numeracy skills.
Can’t Wait to Learn is a digital, curriculum-based, context-specific learning application for education in emergency offering numeracy and reading curricula for primary grades 1, 2 and 3. Accessed on dedicated, preloaded, low-cost tablets and by application on personal iOS and Android devices played both on and offline. CWTL offers children a digital, self-guided education game adapted to context to support motivation and active self-paced learning.
Background
Can’t Wait to Learn (CWTL) is scaling its presence in Uganda, expanding its implementation, and strengthening existing government engagement. Over the next year, we are investing in dedicated leadership to drive key priorities that ensure long-term sustainability and national adoption of the programme, ensuring the programme is appropriately aligned with the government’s existing education priorities.
Position Overview
The Senior Programme Officer will play a key role in supporting the expansion of CWTL in Isingiro and potentially other districts. Working closely with the Country Scaling Lead and the District Local Government, this role will oversee the implementation of the full-school delivery model, ensure smooth coordination with school-level stakeholders, and contribute to programme monitoring, training, and quality assurance efforts. This position is ideal for a programme officer with strong operational experience, familiarity with government systems, and a hands-on approach to field implementation in education programs.
Key Responsibilities
1. District-Level Implementation & Coordination
- Coordinate implementation activities in Isingiro district and support the roll-out of the full-school model in targeted schools.
- Coordinate with District Local Government (DLG) officials and school leadership to align on implementation timelines, training schedules, device management protocols, and ongoing quality assurance processes.
- Provide support to district education officials involved in CWTL supervision and follow-up.
2. Training & Capacity Building
- Support planning and facilitation of ToT and refresher sessions, including for new schools and grades.
- Work with school-level actors to ensure integration of CWTL into class timetables and alignment with the MoE requirements.
- Assist with the orientation of new stakeholders and provide ongoing implementation coaching and feedback.
3. Monitoring, Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Conduct regular school visits to observe implementation, gather feedback, and document challenges.
- Coordinate tablet and hardware maintenance workflows in collaboration with district officials and school team.
- Monitor use of solar charging solutions and support resolution of basic technical issues at school level.
4. Data Collection & Reporting
- Support monitoring of programme fidelity through use of CWTL quality assurance tools, KPI dashboards, and tablet usage data.
- Assist DLG in tracking school performance and supporting schools with low uptake or irregular implementation.
- Compile weekly/monthly updates and field reports for the Country Scaling Lead and global team.
