General
War Child Holland (WCH) is an independent and impartial international non-governmental organization investing in a peaceful future for children and young people affected by armed conflict. WCH works in 14 Countries in the World to improve the resilience and well-being of children, delivering vital Child Protection, Education and Psychosocial Support interventions. War Child Holland has been operating in Uganda since 2004 in West Nile and Southwest Uganda.
 
IMS project is a Community-Based System of Care providing Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) for Conflict-Affected Children and Caregivers in DRC and Uganda”. The project seeks to contribute to the reduction of psychological distress levels and improved wellbeing of children through the implementation of an integrated multi-level MHPSS program comprised of multiple connected, evidence based MHPSS interventions. 
 
The program interventions work together to improve the mental health, psychosocial well-being, and resilience of host communities and IDP children in the DRC and refugee settlements in Uganda as well as strengthen the nurturing environment provided by their caregivers. The program targets both children and their caregivers with community and family-based support.  The project also has a strong component of research that will focus on evaluating the added value of implementing an integrated and evidence-based mental health and psychosocial support services project in the humanitarian context. In Uganda, the project is implementing in 3 locations: Kyaka, Kyangwali and Nakivale refugee settlements and surrounding host communities

Title: Research Assistant _Maternity cover (1 Position)
Duty Station: Kyaka II Refugee settlement
Salary Range: UGX Gross Between (1,803,904- 2,777,027)
Start Date: 1 April 2026
Reports to: Senior Research Coordinator
Contract Duration: 3 months
 
The Research Assistant shall address the following:
  • Maintain regular communication and update about all research activities implementation in all field locations 
  • Attend project Coordination meetings with IMS partners and WCA program Team
  • Identify logistical and budgetary needs of the research aspects of the project during implementation at field level
 
Major Roles and Responsibilities:
  • To act as a liaison between the research team and study population (i.e. school and community leadership, teachers and caregivers)
  • Support selection, training and supervision of research enumerators 
  • To support with preparations, mobilisation and logistics
  • Participate indata collection 
  • Preparation support for research activities, e.g. research trainings, Kobo 
  • Support with meeting scheduling and minute-taking 
  • Liaise with the wider research team attending relevant meetings and workshops.
  • Support with communications and dissemination activities
  • Procurement of required research equipment 
  • Ad hoc support related to research, programme and grant management activities 
Your profile
Qualifications, Competencies and Requirements;
  • Qualifications, Skills and Competence required;
    • Diploma in Education, Social sciences, Development studies, health, child protection, M&E level or similar. Bachelors degree in a related filed will be an added advantage 
    • At least one year’s work experience in research including data collection and cleaning, managing data collection and similar activities.
    • Excellent writing skills in English.
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills with an eye for detail and the ability to multitask.
    • Able to work independently and pick things up quickly. 
    • Cultural and organisational sensitivity.
    • Flexible, pro-active, custom- and result-oriented. 
    • Must be able to speak both English and Rutooro. Ability to speak Congolese Kiswahili and Kinyabwisha will be an added advantage 
    • Ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid riding permit is a MUST
