War Child is an international alliance working in 15 countries. This is an international charity working for children and youth affected by war. War Child initiated working in Afghanistan from 2002. In Afghanistan War Child Work with children and youth, who as a result of conflict, live with a combination of poverty, exclusion, and insecurity. These children and youth might include street children, child headed households, children conscripted into armed groups, unaccompanied minors, youth returnees and refugees, and children who have been put in Juvenile Rehabilitation Center and, the children and youth impacted by the climate induced disasters.  Our mission is to protect, educate and stand up for the rights of children and youth caught up in conflict, poverty, and exclusion. We also work on building the lives and climate resilient livelihoods of the children and youth.  We look forward to a world in which the lives of children and youth are no longer torn apart by war. This is a vision that can only be realized through the collective actions of children and youth themselves, the communities that they live in, their leaders, local organizations, War Child in Afghanistan, governments, and key decision makers.

Your profile

Job Purpose

 You will be part of the highly motivated IPS2 team to support War Child’s people in Afghanistan. As part of this team, you will be responsible for effective delivery of finance and Cash support services to facilitate transparent and efficient utilization of financial resources under the direct supervision of Finance Officer and Finance Manager.

The Duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day financial implementation of the project activities ensuring optimal management and utilization of financial resources of the project. 
  • Analyze financial data by coding on all vouchers for valid account/cost center/donors along with supporting documents for completeness and correctness; advise the appropriate adjustments as necessary. 
  • Review procurement transactions to ensure adequate supporting documentation, the accuracy of amounts, and control over payments. 
  • cash count. 
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly cash and bank reconciliations 
  • Maintain the bank file, ensuring that all bank information is properly filed and updated. 
  • Preparation, review, and upload of Journal Entries for upload of partner reports to the accounting system 
  • Assist the Finance officer and Manager in the submission of monthly Financial Reports to HQ and report any surplus and shortfall. 
  • Check the available grant budgets before releasing any funds for purchase requests and to the partners’ fund requests. 
  • Conduct spot checks and training with Finance and program team and provide advice on the financial aspects of the projects. 
  • Represent the Finance department on procurement committees. 
  • Support the Finance officer and Manager during Internal and External Audits. 
  • Contribute to creating a culture committed to the safeguarding of children and adults and compliant to WCUK’s Child Safeguarding and Adults at Risk Policies.

Experience and mandatory criteria:

  • University Degree (BBA or other relevant)
  • At least 2 Years’ experience with humanitarian organizations related to Finance. 
  • Committed to ensuring financial management policies, processes, and best practices. 
  • Familiar with computerized accounts package. 
  • A highly experienced and competent user of MS Excel and other MS Office packages. 
  • Communicating in English, Pashto, and Dari languages essential, [i.e., reading, writing, and speaking 
  • Objective and strong communicative skills. 
  • Ability to collaborate and able to work with people from different backgrounds. 
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to plan, to work well under pressure and manage priorities to meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to take initiative for continuous improvement. 
  • Flexible and willing to support others. 
  • Commitment and understanding of War Child UK values.
