Job Purpose
The Project Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the implementation of the ECHO-funded project, Providing protection services for the most vulnerable and remote populations across Herat and Ghazni provinces.
The role ensures timely, high-quality, and compliant project delivery in line with ECHO requirements, project work plans, and War Child UK policies. The Project Coordinator will support project planning, implementation, monitoring, stakeholder engagement, project registration and MoU processes, and coordination with government authorities, technical teams, and support functions.
The position will contribute to donor reporting, monitor implementation progress, address operational challenges, and represent War Child UK in provincial humanitarian coordination forums, including relevant Clusters and Technical Working Groups, as delegated by the Senior Program Manager.
The position is based in Herat, with regular travel to Ghazni Province.
Job Description
The Duties and responsibilities may include but not limited to:
- Contextual Analysis: Support partners for maintaining an overall context analysis of the situation within the provinces of implementation and districts level of implementation and generate monthly situation report with that reflects key developments with the humanitarian space of the project implementation. Support War Child security department in conducting regular security field assessments of the project sites.
- Leadership: Rendering both strategic and technical support to the partners in the designing and implementation of the project activities.
- Coordination:
- Coordinate with consortium partners, technical advisors, and support functions to ensure timely planning, implementation, monitoring, and delivery of consortium activities in line with agreed work plans and donor requirements.
- Facilitate effective coordination and communication among consortium members, ensuring timely information sharing, joint planning, and resolution of implementation issues.
- Maintain strong working relationships with consortium partners, clusters, and other key stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress, challenges, risks, and agreed actions.
- Represent the consortium in relevant coordination forums, including Clusters, Sub-Clusters, Technical Working Groups, and other external meetings, as delegated by the Senior Program and Partnership Manager.
- Support the Grant Manager and Consortium Manager in coordinating project registration, MoU endorsement, donor communications, and engagement with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
- Coordinate consortium governance mechanisms, including Management Committee, Technical Committee, and Technical Working Group meetings, ensuring timely preparation of agendas, documentation, action tracking, and follow-up.
- Monitor consortium-wide implementation progress, identify risks, bottlenecks, and capacity gaps, and coordinate timely actions with partners to ensure delivery against project objectives.
- Promote collaboration, consistency, and adherence to consortium agreements, donor compliance requirements, safeguarding standards, and quality benchmarks across all consortium partners.
- Activity Planning, Designing, Implementation and project quality:
- Coordinate and monitor implementation across partner organizations (RSDO and ADWSO) and project locations, ensuring activities are delivered in accordance with approved work plans, quality standards, and donor requirements.
- Track implementation progress against agreed action plans and milestones, facilitate timely follow-up with consortium partners, and escalate risks, delays, and bottlenecks to the Consortium Manager and Senior Program and Partnership Manager as appropriate.
- Coordinate consortium planning processes, including inception activities, implementation planning, assessments, and partner work plans, in close collaboration with technical advisors, MEAL teams, and consortium partners to ensure timely and effective delivery.
- Management: render both strategic and technical process management support in the day-to-day delivery of the project activities. This includes support for the teams and effective follow-up with respective functions of the organizations.
- Budget Management: Present the monthly cash forecast; ensuring optimal management and utilization of human and financial resources of the project, carryout monthly BvA meeting and regular budget revisions meeting and flag up any issues of concerns.
- Logistics/Procurement support: Support development of detailed procurement and supply plans for the project; guide/support teams on procurement, admin, and finance activities of the project are according to organizations’ policies.
- Team Management and capacity building support: Line manages staff members as per WCUK HR policies, ensures effective work planning by the team, conducts monthly meetings to ensure effective team management and support. In consultation with the thematic technical staff in War Child UK and partner organizations, develop relevant training modules and conduct series of training to staff and stakeholders in the project’s sites.
- Reporting: Generate monthly reporting on progress both internally and externally to the stakeholders including the clusters/hubs, ensure timely donor reporting and government reporting as well as share updates internally and participate in the EMT meeting on a regular basis.
- Safeguarding: Contribute to creating a culture committed to the safeguarding of children and adults and compliant to WCUK’s Child Safeguarding and Adults at Risk Policies.
- Carry out any other task that may be assigned or delegated.

Person Specification
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or a related field relevant to humanitarian and development work is required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing or coordinating humanitarian projects, with at least 2 years in a consortium or multi-partner coordination role.
- At least two years of hands-on experience in Child Protection (CP) case management and CPIMS+, gained through work with humanitarian organizations, preferably international child protection NGOs.
- Formal training and demonstrated capacity in CP case management and CPIMS+, with the ability to apply these tools in emergency and humanitarian contexts.
- Experience in working with Children and Women in the context of western region provinces.
- Excellent coordination, facilitation, and negotiation skills; High level of self-awareness and good interpersonal relations.
- Proficiency in languages in English (both written and verbal); Dari and Pashto
- Good report writing and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems and facilitate effective decision making.
- High frustration-tolerance level and ability to cope with stressful working conditions.
